SMIÐSBÚÐIN

Erling Jóhannesson and Helga Ósk Einarsdóttir are two goldsmiths who run Smiðsbúðin, a gallery and workshop located in the old fish warehouses on Geirsgata by the old harbor in Reykjavík. In their workshop, in the fish warehouse, Erling and Helga have created an environment and exhibition space where the experience is unique and perfectly complements their special design and high-quality craftsmanship.

HELGA ÓSK

Helga Ósk graduated in goldsmithing from Reykjavik Technical College  in 1995 and completed further studies in design and contemporary jewelry making at the Institute for Precious Metals in Copenhagen in 2010. She has worked both domestically and
abroad as a goldsmith and designer. Helga's work spans a diverse range of jewelry making, but what characterizes most of her jewelry is how she has combine traditional filigree work and contemporary jewelry. Filigree, which has a long history in Icelandic jewelry making, is an extremely delicate craft that Helga has uniquely modernized with original and refined interpretations. In addition, Helga has created and designed jewelry that often borders on being independent works of art.

ERLING

Erling Jóhannesson graduated as a goldsmith from Reykjavík Technical College in 1983. After further studies in goldsmithing in Florence, Italy, he worked in various workshops in Reykjavík. 1990 Erling  graduated as an actor from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts and has since balanced his work in jewelry making and theater work, both domestically and abroad. Erling's jewelry is diverse, and over his long career, his projects have been varied. However, the common thread in his work is a clear conceptualization of forms, these forms are often imaginative and ambiguous, yet in some strange way, they reference a not entirely obvious reality.
